I love..love... LOVE his song "I'm Yours". To add to this new obsession is that I absolutely LOVE his video. I have put this song on repeat all day long. Theres something about the vibe that invokes such a happy, care free spirit. A spirit that I want to have.. now & always. The video, where he is just bumming around,--THIS is the feeling and experience I want to have in life. That life is a fun & interesting ride-- and just relax and ride the wave. Life will happen as long as you let go. No worries.. only happiness. All that good stuff...

SATC

I CAN NOT BELIEVE i'm saying this.. but yes... I broke down and saw the SATC movie. Friendship, love, and shopping. How could any girl not love SATC? I hate to admit it.. but I bawled like a baby! I dont want to be a spoiler (for the 2 of you who haven't seen it yet)-- so if you haven't seen it... stop reading!

The scene where she is pounding Big with the flowers--- was a waterfall of tears for me. Especially when she screamed "I knew you couldn't do it!!" I just KNEW how she felt in that moment. Its that moment when your scared to give yourself up--but you do anyway.. and you find that the person you gave yourself to lets you down. I cried the most at the ending. It gave me hope and was an awaking for me as well. Mostly, I cried because I know that it will never be my ending-- at least not with my "Mr. Big".

Everyone can relate to SATC because even if your "Mr. Big" ain't that "big" in real life... he was the one who stole your heart. The one that you had no logic with and the one that you just convinced yourself to stay with beyond all reason. Everyone has (or will have) at least one Mr. Big. I still haven't decided if my mr.big was a good experience or a bad one. The older I get, the more confused I get about everything. I guess one day Ill figure it all out.... but until then.. I always have my friends and shopping!

PREGNANT?

These past few days I've been so bloated that I had almost convinced myself that I was pregnant. I was about to get a pregnancy test when... I got my period. Turns out that I just need to do more cardio. I was trying to install my new curtain rods, reaching as high as my tiny 5'2'' frame would allow me. I was feeling exceptionally proud and independent. Whereas normally, I would have a man (or MY man to be exact) help me install something like this.. I was doing it all on my own! When suddenly, as I was on my tiptoes, I lost my balance---slipped and fell! My lower back and left tricep slammed against the corners of my wooden chest placed at the side of the window. As I rolled in pain, I couldn't help but think about that old lady in the Life call commercials in the 80's. Is this the way its going to be? Single... alone.. on the floor with no one able to help me? As I lay on the floor, visions of SATC lifestyle washed out of my mind and fear set in. I don't want to be the Life call lady! I dont know exactly how this incident has helped me in the long run--But I at least know that I dont want to give up men forever! Having a man may have its own down falls and pains, but at least someone will be able to call 9-1-1 for you!
Needless to say, my cell phone has been within arms reach ever since!

A New Earth

Just in case anyone has/has not noticed--My last entry was in February. LOTS has happened since then. Mainly, moved out of my apartment with my ex that I shared for the past 2&1/2 years & living on my own in NYC! Another major event is that I turned 30! eek!! Please-- I swear, if anyone mentions SATC i'm going to have to vomit.

But its true, life (as I knew it) has changed in so many ways. One of the books that has really helped me through the past few months is A New Earth. Yes, I know.. another Oprah book. **sigh** But believe me, its not as hokey as The Secret! The basic principle is that it teaches people to live in the NOW. It has helped me tremendously in figuring out the meaning of true happiness. To appreciate life and to be content you must live in the present. Nothing is certain --worrying about the future or the past won't change a thing. The only reality is the NOW. Its hard to live like that.. (especially in neurotic/ADD/self-absorbed NYC) but i'm learning. As for right now... its working! Lets see... its either this or old DVD's of SATC!~

Reese Witherspoon

Ok.. I already think Reese Witherspoon is a smart, cute, and funny lady. But after I saw her interview regarding her newly produced movie (Penelope) on Good Morning America ....I love her even more! The basis behind Penelope is about a little girl (named Penelope) who has inherited a pig-like snout for a nose due to a family curse.

Here's a piece of the interview that I just LOVED:

Reese W: The character Penelope really spoke to me.. Finding what is really beautiful about you. What your perceived imperfections are.

GMA: Children are sometimes very cruel to someone who is very different.

Reese W: Oh yeah. I think we all sort of deal with that. In our own childhood or in raising children. But that is sort of an informative experience. I wouldn't want any of my children to miss out on that teasing or bulling. Don’t you think it kind of makes you who you are? When you don’t’ make the soccer team? And you cant....That is thing that kind of drives me crazy about today. Right? Where everyone wins the award. Everyone's the MVP. NO! THERE NOT! OK! I distinctly recall the 2 weeks of crying because I didn't make the softball team. It made me interesting. You know?

Dude!! I love that. She was totally saying what I was ranting about a few blog posts back (aka: Dove ad). You don't need to change a definition of what something really is. Just be confident in yourself and see things for what they are. Be happy and work with what you got... because its good enough! You can't be the best at everything! It's impossible. So what if your not the most superficially beautiful person in the world? You dont have to change the definition to feel good about yourself. Find out what is amazing about you... so what if its not superficial?

Aliens in America

I was watching TV last night when I accidentally stumbled upon the funniest show that I've seen in years.... Aliens in America. It has the total NON- PC humor that I LOVE. It was totally cracking me up.

The show is about a socially awkward boy named Justin, who has a mom that is obsessed with making him popular. She comes up with an idea to host a foreign exchange student to create (and hopefully start) a trend of gaining new friends. What Justin's mom didn't expect was to get a kid from Pakistan. She totally thinks he's a terrorist and she tries to send him back! And this is just how the story begins.

One of the best scenes is when Raja goes for his first day at school and the teacher announces that they "will be in the presence of a REAL Pakistani". Then she goes on to ask the other students how it feels to have someone SO different in class with them. One of the blond hair, blue eyed girls responds "I guess it makes me mad because his people blew up The World Trade Center". LOL...

The show is perfect for the times.. when everyone acts like they don't have stereotypes but obviously does. Raja is such a sweet and kind person. I think it will really open up peoples eyes while being able to laugh the absurd truth of it all. Not sure if the rest of the season will be this good, but hopefully it is!

Artists

I know that living in New York I might actually get lynched for saying this... but I'm so tired of artist and their live or die attitude about art.

Yes, I agree, art is a fundamental part of a cultured and advanced society. But.. I believe that it has gone too far. Not only the art, but the demeanor of actual artists. Its as if they know that their art is SO subjective that they have to overcompensate with an arrogant interpretation of art and their own personal work.

Lets face it. Art is a luxury. Art is peripheral part of human existence and is the first thing to go when a society is put under any financial of physical pressure. Most artists today come from a privileged background in all respects. Not only when they study and develop their craft, but also to be able to continue to season and sell their art.

I'm not saying art is a bad thing. I love it. But lets face it. It is what it is. Its a luxury. Something that should be taken for what it is. Nothing to live and die for. Artist have to know in the big scheme of things, their work is an indulgence. They have chosen a path where they are mostly self-serving and ultimately practice a self-centered life. People can argue that art-work gives many people joy. But in the scheme of life and careers, humans need doctors and teachers more than they need another hipster making a sculpture.

Obviously, this will offend lots of people. But my point is that artists need to stop being offended by every little comment. There are more important things in life than someone else's opinion. I want them to laugh and take it easy for once. So maybe their artwork is insignificant and crap. So who cares?! They should know that they have it good. They should appreciate the fact that they are able to do something that so many others are unable to do. I mean, I don't even need to go into Africa and developing nations sort of talk to prove that they have it good compared to most. So my bottom line to all those artist that get offended by EVERYTHING....TAKE IT EASY FOLKS! There are more important things in life to get upset over! YOU HAVE IT GOOD!

Dove Ads

The other day I was having a heated argument with someone I just met regarding the Dove ads. The ads were not specifically what we were fighting over, it just sparked a debate about what the definition of beauty was.

He stated that the definition of beauty was too narrow and should be question and expanded. (*he basically LOVED the dove ads)

I on the other hand believed that, in the modern developed world, there is a definition of outer beauty that is universal. (*I basically think the dove ads are corney self confidence boosters)

I suppose the debate could go on...(and it did).. but there are a few solid things I strongly believe to be true when it comes to the definition of superficial beauty and why I think its universal. First off, I believe that unless you are living in a developing country, obese is not really considered attractive. I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that larger people tend to be more sickly (ie: diabetes & heart diseases) or that clothes do not look as nice on them because they do not hang as well, but I know that to be true. And every plastic surgeon will tell you that numerous studies have been preformed where they showed that attractiveness has to do with the symmetry of then face. These studies showed (amongst many other things) how babies eyes generally stare longer at faces that have more symmetry. Also, big breast, long lashes, and thick lips all indicate fertility to our primitive urges and are most likely the reason why we think they are attractive. Those are only a few of the universal indicators for beauty that I believe that we as humans have ingrained in us from evolution and natural selection.

Do I believe that people can have individual tastes and preferences? Yes. Do I think they are wrong for having them? No. Do I think that racial diversity can not be considered beautiful? No, I think every race can embody these standards and can be considered beautiful.

Well, they guy I was talking to saw beauty as a personal preference, but I saw it as something
more definite. Something that people could define. And beauty to me.. its better than average. Or else why wouldn't you feel good when someone said "oh.. your so AVERAGE!"

I'm tired of seeing people who may have a ton of INNER beauty going off and saying they are so beautiful. I'm all for self-confidence, but come on.. isn't that a little too PC for you? Its like every little league baseball player getting a trophy, and every kid that gets a barely passing grade a pat on the back. I personally believe that American children have overinflated sense of selves. The parents and society are creating a generation of people who feel entitled and "better than average" .....when they are not! If your not what society defines as beauty.... its ok!!! You can still be smart, creative, witty... But don't fool yourself and call yourself beautiful! **I'm not talking inner beauty people!!!! I think a ton of supeficially beautiful people are truly ugly inside. But... people should call it like it is! So to these Dove ads I say... "give me a break"!

Britney Spears Diary

Like most people, I've kept a diary most of my life... and the best part about it is to look back on it and see how accurate you were in your predictions for the future.

That is why I was so interested when i stumbled upon an old interview with Britney in 2004.... pre babies, pre- k.fed.. pre Jamie Lynn prego! (*Britain's version of American Idol.. with Simon Cowell and all). He somehow connects to his audience in a way that I don't think average opera singers do. Maybe its his Cinderella story... or the fact that you could never expect that voice from a man who looks so ordinary? You have to listen to him sing... his is definitely this generations Pavarotti! Check him out on the clip below. ps: he just came out with a new album.. It is supposedly the "winner of the Toronto Film Festival People's Choice Award" (former winners- "Life is Beautiful, "Hotel Rwanda", "American Beauty"). I was expecting a certain level of quality in this film. I don't want to go into it too much... but it was horrible. From beginning to end. Basically the story was about abortion and accidental death... both topics that were portrayed poorly. Due to the lack of character development and plot, I did not ONCE feel connected to the characters. Most of the film was shot as a "day in the life of"... showing shots of the characters quietly sitting in the train... gardening...eating.. blah blah blah.... SO BORING and a complete waste of time. The best part of the film was when an audience members started heckling and patrons started to walk out of the screening!

I'm not sure why this film was chosen as the choice award? Except for the fact that the main character was really REALLY HOT. (*about the best thing of the film!)~~ seriously.. the guy is hot..

But whatever you do.. After seeing "Knocked Up" (which is now one of my favorite movies), I instantly knew that Katherine would be the next Meg Ryan for romantic comedies. I just heard that she will be staring in a film due out in January called "27 dresses" (*check out the previews above). The previews are really cute and Katherine seems to shine in the role. She has the two most important qualities needed in a romantic comedy star... great comedic timing and beauty. I hope she continues to embrace this niche in hollywood and goes for a 3rd romantic comedy! (oh.. and I also loved her Emmy speech.. so modest and sincere!)

Celebrity couples I was sad to see go

Ok.. so while I'm at it.. here are the celebrities I wish never broke up!

1) Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake- When they broke up... it was the beginning of the end (at least for the pop world). After being on the Mickey Mouse show together, they became each others first loves in middle school. After an innocent game of spin the bottle, pop royalty was made. I wish they never broke up! Maybe then, Britney wouldn't be where she is today. Remember the good old days pre- K-fed,Cameron Diaz outbursts & Biel hookups? I fully believe that her demise started with their breakup in 2002.

2) Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Phillippe- WHY .. WHY.. did he have to be so jealous of her Oscar and cheat on her? Their little mini-me family is too cute for words.

3) Michelle Williams & Heath Ledger- They were the absolute hipster couple. Indie movie stars at night and Brooklynites by day. I was so sad when I heard they split. After hearing Heath talk to Oprah about how happy he was with "his two girls" on a post Brokeback interview, I thought they would never split.

4) Kate Bosworth & Orlando Bloom- I miss watching the two skinny kids running around... and wondering which one would gain weight first.

5) Heather Locklear & Richie Sambora- After 11 years of marriage and a beautiful daughter to show for it, I thought Heather & Richie would go down as the few hollywood couples to make it. Unfortunately for Heather, she became friends with the very hollywood Denise Richards (aka: black widow psycho friend). It must of been hard for Denise to see her friend have such a happy marriage after marrying such a wife abuser. Guess she became so jealous that she decided she had to go in for the kill and screw friendship.

6) Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams- They did "The Notebook" and then fell in love. Have you seen the movie? It can't get much better than that. Gosling was quoted recently in GQ as saying that Rachel was "One of the great loves of his life". I still think/hope they are going to pull a Kate & William.

Best Celebrity Couples

So.. since I wrote an entry about the worst.. I feel the best deserve a shout out as well.

1) Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie- Hot with Hot. Once in a blue moon.. the stars align perfectly and a kind of "super couple" is created. One in which both man and female match in looks, intelligence, and appeal. This is Brad and Angelina. The worst couples are the ones when one partner is significantly more attractive then their partner.. don't you agree? In all their past relationships, Brad and Angelina were considerably hotter than their counterparts (hello... Juliette Lewis, Jennifer Aniston, Billy Bob?) . But with this case.. its such a draw...!

2) Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos- They are such a cute couple. They met on soap opera set and got hitched in Vegas. They have 3 little kids that look exactly like them to boot. He's the
Latin lover and she is the Jersey princess of daytime television. This is a case of opposites attracting. I hope they stay together forever!

3) Bon Jovi & Dorothea Hurley- Getting married to high school sweet heart during the height of his career?! Need I say more?

4) Prince William & Kate Middleton- Can we be reminded of the magical times of princess Diana again? With Kate, the potential for those times to be met is outstanding. Kate seems so down to earth and seems to be a perfect match for the prince! I'm so glad that they got back together.

5) Heidi Klum & Seal- This is the classic case of beauty and the beast. It is so obvious that they are in love. Seal adores her and Heidi is just is so smitten by him. They are such a cute couple! (ps: i dont think that seal is that hideous.. its just that Heidi is so Hot)

Worst Celebrity Couples

After looking at yet another picture of Suri Cruise (*shes on the cover of US weekly!) ... I started to automatically compile a list of "Worst Celebrity Couples".... of course.. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes topping the list.

1) Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes- She has totally been brain washed. I miss her with Chris Klein. Such a cute wholesome couple. For 5 years they were the perfect midwestern couple. Then Tom Cruise put a Scientology spell on her and paid her 8 million dollars to be a surrogate mother! I mean.. when will he come out already? Tom looks so awkward in his wedding photo.. its like a gay boys prom picture.

2) Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner- I know i'm going to get slack for this because so many people like them as a couple. BUT there is something SO irritating about Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck together (and separately) that I want to puke. I mean... I liked her so much better with Scott Foley and when she wasn't such a social climber.

3) Trista & Ryan - Enough said.

4) Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt- (I almost dont want to mention this.. because I dont want to give them more attention).. But they are so fake and annoying I have to mention it! Superficial girl with fake ass guy. Sounds like the perfect couple? Right? Almost, but not enough to want to see them fake it out. They are the ultimate irritating couple.

Hung- Winner of Top Chef 3

I admit it, I'm a die hard fan of Top Chef. The first season.. not so much. The second season.. started to get to me. NOW- I wait for Wednesday nights! Learning the significance of James Beard, Michelin Guide, and what sweetbreads are has been such a fun adventure. ( wait.. am I slowly becoming a ...."foodie"?) I'm so happy that Hung won! He was by far the best chef this season. I would dare to say that he might have even been the best through all 3 seasons. I actually would have been pissed if Dale or Casey won because neither consistently performed throughout the entire show.

I hope that Hung follows season one winner, Harold Dieterle, and opens a restaurant in NYC. Harolds restaurant, Perilla, is by far one of my favorite restaurants in NYC right now. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that lives in NYC or that is coming to visit. But I attended the rally for Obama in Washington Square Park the other week (Sept 27) and I just wanted to share how awesome it was! I arrived at the park around 4:30 and it was already starting to pack up quickly. Security was taking such a long time getting people through (one... by one... by one.......eeeer...). They were checking everyones bags, collecting umbrellas (that apparently can be used as weapons) and slowly letting people through a metal detector. But by the time I reached the security check point... (hours later)... they just let EVERYONE in!!! So a big mob of people just ran in. It was so packed, but you could feel the energy and excitement in the air. With hip hop playing in the background on the loud speaker... Obama finally came out! He rocked the house! I didn't know that a political rally could be so exciting. It totally had a Modonna-concert like experience.

Anyway... even though I waited hours in humidity, next to some crazy homeless man and a mother and her baby carriage... I made it in.. and it was worth it!

Check out the video from the rally... at this link. I know I never did. But when I started to dive into her story, it got JUICER AND JUICER!

Patty Boyd was part of a legendary love triangle with George Harrison (of The Beatles) and Eric Clapton. In the 1960's Patty was a model with Scarlett Johansson like looks. She was cast in a movie staring The Beatles called "A Hard Days Night" *which I randomly saw the other night in a public outdoor viewing?. Anyway, George was in his early 20's and Patty was still in her teens when they met on that set and fell madly in love. Shortly after the movie, they got married. He even wrote "Something" (one of the greatest love songs in history) for her. You would think they should have lived "happily ever after". But this is where the juiciness begins!

Apparently, life after marriage with George wasn't super great. He apparently didn't treat her very well and even cheated on her with Ringo Star's wife! Eric Clapton was good friends with George and Patty would frequently go to him for consolation on her relationship. Somewhere in the mix, Eric fell madly in love with Patty. He openly expressed his love for her with love letters and even told George. But since Patty wouldn't have him, he started to date and LIVE with the next best thing.. her younger sister (Jenny Boyd)! At that time Eric wrote the famous song "Layla" for Patty. It was inspired by a Persian love story (The Story of Layla) about a moon-princess who was forced by her father to marry a man other than her true love. Jenny (Patty's sister) finally left Eric after hearing Layla (which confirmed to Jenny that Eric was in love with her sister and that she was only a substitute).

After years of pursuing and being obsessed with Patty, Patty finally divorced George and married Eric. Eric Clapton then wrote the his most famous song "Wonderful Tonight" for her while she was getting ready to go to a party!

The story goes on and on, but that is the gist of it. HOW awesome would it be to be the muse of 3 of the greatest love songs in history?!! Crazy... right? Anyway, she recently just wrote a book called "Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me". I'm going to definitely put her book on my list of next reads!

Britney Spears 2000 MTV VMA's performing Oops I did it again

Lets reminisce on the Britney we all loved 7 years ago.

2007 VMA's

Poor Britney!~ That performance was SO sad. Her lip syncing was off and her dance moves didn't even look like she was dancing. I'm not even sure why she was lip syncing because she was barely MOVING! She totally looked nervous and scared!~ What happened the Britney I was in love with 7 years ago? Its a website that helps you loan money to small businesses around the world and partners with microfinance institutions to select qualified borrowers. Most of the entrepreneurs are very needy and would love to have their one shot at making a business.

The concept is cool. You loan money (through the website& paypal) to a profile (borrower) that you choose. Then you get updates from the borrowers on their status. Finally, they repay your money back and you can either cash out or invest in someone else! Its that simple. You really feel that you are helping to build someones dream. Try it out! I think you'll really like the concept. :)

Oprah in NYC

Before moving to NYC, I lived in Chicago for a little over a year. If you have only one week to watch television this year, you NEED to watch The Wire. I can't even go into detail about it. Just TRUST ME. You won't regret it. Here is a link to the website so you can get a taste.

People who love The Wire... If you haven't... you HAVE to watch it! Until recently, I had NO idea how much fun watching political debates could be!

If your not that into it, PLEASE .. at least watch the closing question!
**freaking Christopher Dodd had a FLY in his HAIR!!! **

They asked the candidates what the "turning point" in their life when they decided to go on the path to presidency.

Let me highlight that segment with my caricature of the candidates:
KUCINICH: Reminds me of Micky Mouse in every way.
OBAMA: Smooth Operator. Voice is a mix of a Harvard professor and Morgan Freeman. How could you not listen to him?
BIDEN: "Don't bull shit me.. I've been here too long" attitude. **Did you notice that every time they mention "civil rights" they pan to the same ONE black guy in the audience! LOL..
RICHARDSON: Jokester. Reminds me so much of Horatio Sanz.
GRAVEL: Conspiracy Theorist. If he says "follow the money" one more time....
EDWARDS: Awwwwww shucks... Southern boy. Has to ALWAYS tell a story in that southern draw.. "when I was a young boy... I worked in the the mills with my father"
DODD: I COULD NOT CONCENTRATE. HE HAD A FLY CRAWLING AROUND IN HIS HEAD!!! I mean.. could the fly pick a whiter back drop to fly on or what? **if you close your eyes, its a moving answer.. but i just can't stop looking at that FLY.
CLINTON: Strong ass woman. Practically re-wrote her own Feminine Mystique.

Well anyway, if you don't want to watch it.. heres the transcript.

Tap Please

I've ALWAYS thought bottled water was the biggest scam in history... (diamonds in a close second). But FINALLY, i found an article that says it all. This weeks Time magazine had a great article about how bottled water is a big waste. This problem is also mentioned in The New York Times editorial section earlier this month. I mean.. WHY would someone PAY for something that is safe and FREE??? Not to mention that NYC has been ranked as one of the best tasting taps in the country. The article also points out that the bottles are actually harming the environment. But don't get me wrong, i'm not doing to "save the world"... i'm doing it because i'm CHEAP!

Freak!

I was reading the Race issue of Time Out this week and was freaked out by this weeks Public eye. You have to check out the interview!

Guilty Pleasure

Ok.. I can't believe I'm actually admitting to this.. but I watch the show "The Hills" on MTV. Its my little guilty pleasure. I know, watching a bunch of privileged young Hollywood girls does seem lame, but somehow we can all relate to the Lauren's friendship woes. Somehow watching Heidi (the evil backstabbing friend) and Laurens friendship unravel is a cathartic experience. Most girls have had at least 1 "Heidi" in their life. Anyway, I bet after watching 1 episode, you'll be screaming "what at b**ch!!" at the TV too! (*mostly at Heidi's tool of a boyfriend, Spencer)

ps: Can you believe Heidi (post plastic surgery) and Spencer actually put out a single?! If anyone has been watching the debates, you'll also LOVE OBAMA! He is the most inspirational and fresh voice that I've ever seen! He brings hope to America.. when we need it most..post Bush (cue booing and hissing). I have full faith that he'll run this country in the direction we need to go. For those people that are obsessed with the fact that he is 1/2 African American ... CLOSE your eyes... and LISTEN!~ What he says is TRUE!~ (*listen.. his race or the fact that I love hip hop has nothing to do with why I love him!)

Dont forget to check out:
www.barackobama.com
(*to get the Obama T's)

Gap

What is up with Gap these days? This last batch of ad's solidified that Gap is OUT. They were trying WAY too hard with this last batch. I mean... John Mayer in a Gap ad?!!! Did they miss the mark or what? First Jessica Simpson and now THIS? Right now.. he embodies cheezy.
